New Year New IG Bio

New year, same you, because you’re amazing just the way you are (cue: Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars). But maybe your IG bio could use a little update? If you haven’t looked at yours in a year (or more) or can’t even remember what it says… it’s time to give it a refresh. Trust us.

Similar to your website, your profile is a digital billboard. It might be the first place someone comes across your business. To be a little dramatic, it could make or break whether someone starts the process of a customer journey with you, or swipes past you to the next business that does what you do.

But it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Follow these five easy tips to revamp your IG bio for the new year:

  • Make every word count:

You only have 150 characters, so make them count. Keep your bio short + clear. Write about what you do (less is more here) and consider including an emoji or two.

  • Think like a search engine:

While you want to keep your bio clear + concise, make sure you incorporate key words into your bio. Did you know that if someone googles your key words, you can show up in their IG search? And maybe even their Google search!

  • Show up as yourself:

Make sure your bio represents your brand and vibe. Don’t try to mimic anyone else here. This is your chance to be you! Add in humor, passion, or whatever makes your voice, yours. This is a perfect opportunity to add a qualifier (aka, why should people believe you: certifications, amount of time in the industry, etc.)

  • Include a CTA:

Don’t miss out on the chance to include a call to action. Ask followers to check out your website, buy from you, or book an appointment. Don’t forget to include the how.

  • Use Links:

Instagram now allows you to add multiple links to your profile, but that doesn’t mean you need to use them all. Remember, be intentional. Pair your links with the calls to action in your bio text, and use clear, hooky, short link titles that tell people exactly what they’ll get. Think timely and strategic additions, like a recent podcast episode you were featured on or a freebie you’re currently promoting.

Here’s your homework:

Take 10 minutes to look at your bio and review it with these four tips in mind.

Make at least one edit using these tips.

P.S. If your IG bio is optimized, consider checking out your Facebook profile or LinkedIn bio + giving them an update! Follow the same tips above, with these character limits in mind:

Facebook Intro

  • 255 characters

LinkedIn

  • Tagline: 120 characters
  • Business Overview: 2.000 characters allowed, but viewers can only see about 200 characters without clicking “see more.”

Cheers to a refreshed 2026!
