Our Small Biz Owners Guide to Hashtag Holidays for 2026

Dec 09, 2025

Are you taking advantage of posting seasonal content, traditional holiday content, and hashtag holidays? If not, it’s time.

Before we get started exploring hashtag holidays, here’s some background info:

What is seasonal content/traditional holidays?

These are dates that have a wide range of familiarity, think literally the four seasons and the days that surround them.  As for holidays, think of the “Big Ones” like New Year's Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, and Christmas. Dates that have wide cultural relevance. These dates may feel a little easier to connect promotions or heartfelt posts to your audience.

What are hashtag holidays?

Hashtag holidays are specific, themed days used to celebrate or raise awareness for a variety of topics. They can, but do not always include traditional global, national holidays, or just silly things to enjoy (like National Pizza Day!) These dates may be a little harder to connect to a sale, but they can create a connection or community with your audience. These dates can help your brand’s personality shine in a unique way that a “Happy New Year” post may not do.

Is one better to use than the other or is there a difference?

When it comes to social media strategy, yes and no. A post about Christmas may get more views than National Dentists Day, but when you use them strategically, both can be used well.

Why should small business owners include seasonal content and hashtags in their social media strategy?

Use these days to promote your brand, services, or products. They help your business stay relevant, provide relatable content, build relationships, and, yes, can serve as easy posts for proof of life.

They’re also great for batching content. Think about it: you can create your entire year’s worth of hashtag holiday posts for 2026 in one sitting. (We’ll give you the 411 on the 2026 calendar later on. Keep reading.)

How do you use them?

You can highlight seasonal content or a hashtag holiday by creating relevant content around the day. Make sure to include the name of the holiday and the hashtag connected to it in your caption. Example: “Happy National Pizza Day” AND #NationalPizzaDay

The number of hashtag holidays is never-ending, and people create new ones frequently. But trust us when we say, you don’t want to post for every hashtag holiday. Choose the ones that are relevant to your business and your audience

Here are some things to consider when deciding whether or not to post seasonal content or a hashtag holiday:

1- Does it fit your industry or niche?

For example, if you own an ice cream shop, you definitely want to highlight #NationalIceCreamDay, but let’s think outside the box. If you run a company like Tums or Lactaid… you can also highlight your product for this day.

2 - Does it fit your brand’s mood/vibe?

Don’t post about a holiday just because your peer did. Make sure it fits with your brand’s personality. If your brand thrives on humor, it might be worth it to create a post for #DressUpYourPetDay.

If, however, your brand is a little more formal, that’s okay! Stick with traditional seasonal content like New Year’s and Memorial Day, consider highlighting worthy causes that are important to you, and find some industry-specific hashtag holidays.

3 - Will it help me sell or connect deeper with my audience/clients/community?

It’s important to know that you don’t have to celebrate every seasonal holiday on social media. Some of our clients choose to say nothing about holidays, while others celebrate the ones their team + customers appreciate.

Posting on seasonal or hashtag holidays isn’t just about visibility + sales. These posts can show cultural relevance and sensitivity. They can also demonstrate your values. For example, on Mother’s Day, you can mention something about knowing that it’s a hard day for those who have lost their mothers. Or if you have veterans in your family, mention it on Veterans Day as a way to honor your family members and invite your audience to honor their loved ones, too.

Now that you have the 411 on seasonal content and hashtag holidays, are you ready to plan yours for next year?

Here’s a list of some of our fave options for 2026, along with some prompts and caption suggestions you can use to craft your posts.

Some of these are directly from our Stratos Social Media Club templates!

*Note: If you’re reading this blog after 2026, the hashtag holidays still exist, but you’ll want to do a quick Google search to verify the date that corresponds with the hashtag holiday in your particular year.

  • Want to go deeper? Include a short story with the “scary” moment and how you grew from it.
  • Consider pairing with Halloween-themed imagery (pumpkins, costumes, etc.) for fun seasonal vibes.

Prompt: National Checklist Day

Give your followers a glimpse of your to-do list by sharing 4-5 checklist items based on your business, niche, or season. Keep it honest, or a little funny, add some personal to-dos if you’re comfortable

CTA: Have your audience share one thing they’re checking off their to-do lists this week.

Caption Example:

Checklist Day is here, so you know I had to make one!

Whether you’re tackling your to-do list or just trying to get through the week, sometimes a simple checklist makes everything feel a little more manageable.

Here’s what I’m focusing on right now:

βœ”οΈ Saying no to things I don’t actually have time for

βœ”οΈ Catching up on the things I’ve been avoiding (hi, inbox)

βœ”οΈ Creating space for what matters most

βœ”οΈ Drinking water like it’s my job

βœ”οΈ Taking one step at a time, even if they’re tiny

Your turn: what’s one thing you’re checking off this week? Drop it in the comments!

Customization Tips:

  • Swap in your own 4-5 checklist items based on your business, season, or current vibe.
  • Keep it honest or a little funny, people love relatable lists!
  • You can tie it into a service (optional), or keep it light and personal.

Bonus B-Roll Ideas:

Opening a planner and checking something off

Typing on a laptop with a coffee nearby

Crossing off a to-do list with a pen

A sticky note board or wall calendar

Pouring a drink or lighting a candle (to show a reset moment)

Walking or stretching between tasks (to show real-life breaks)

Text Overlay Ideas:

“It’s Checklist Day… here’s mine πŸ“”

Each clip can show a checklist item being ‘checked off’

Final screen: “What’s one thing you’re checking off this week?”

This is also a great chance to use trending audio if any front-facing or B-roll Reels are popular the month prior.

πŸ‘‹ It’s World Hello Day, so hello!

Waving at the camera with “Hi, I’m [Name]” on screen

Holding up fingers while you count off each fact

Lip-syncing to a trending “introduce yourself” audio

Typing or writing facts on screen over calming footage

Walking toward the camera with captions or facts overlaid

Prompt: Small Business Saturday

Use this day to highlight your own services, products, or a promo you’re offering, or highlight another small business you love or partner with.

CTA: Encourage followers to tag their fave small businesses in the comments so you can all support each other.

Example Caption:

It’s Small Business Saturday, let’s show some love! πŸ›οΈ

Every time you choose to support a small business, whether by booking a service, telling a friend, or even just showing up online, it makes a real difference.

And if you’ve supported mine? Thank you. Seriously.

✨ This weekend, I’m offering [insert your special offer, like “a little bonus when you book a session” or “$10 off gift cards”] as a small way to say thanks.

Or take time today to shout out a small business you love!

Tag them below so we can all spread the support.

Customization Tips

  • Focus on gratitude or community building if you’re not offering a discount or promotion.
  • Add a photo or quick video of you supporting a small business (even if it's just grabbing coffee from a local spot).
  • If you want to partner with another business, consider doing a joint giveaway or cross-promo post for SBS weekend.

Hashtag Holiday Prompt: Giving Tuesday

Create a post talking about the importance of giving back and how you or your business support a cause you care about (this can be donating, volunteering, amplifying the voice of a nonprofit, or showing up for your neighbors).

CTA: Invite your followers to tag their fave nonprofit in the comments so others can learn more about them.

Caption Example:

It’s Giving Tuesday!

Today’s all about giving back and supporting organizations that are making an incredible difference in the lives of those navigating hard seasons.

I wanted to take a moment to highlight a cause that means a lot to me:

πŸ‘‰ [Insert nonprofit or cause here, e.g., “@FeedingAmerica,” “a local shelter,” or “a mentorship program for teens”].

Whether I can support financially, volunteer, or simply spread the word, it feels good to be a part of something bigger.

If you’re looking for a way to give this season, I’d love to invite you to check them out, or tag a nonprofit you support so we can all learn more and give if we can.

Customization Tips:

If your business donates a portion of sales or supports a cause year-round, mention that briefly.

Don’t overthink the cause: it can be personal, local, or something your audience may not know about yet.

Use this as an opportunity to make giving feel approachable, not performative.

Holiday Prompt: New Year's Eve/Year-End Wrap-up

Take some time to reflect on the past year. Share the challenges and the successes. List 4-5 accomplishments, milestones, or memories from the year.

CTA: Ask your audience to share via comment or DM, 1 major accomplishment or memory from the current year.

 Or

Wrap up the year by reflecting on what went well, what was hard, and what made it meaningful.

This is a chance to be real with your audience and let them into the behind-the-scenes of your business in a thoughtful, personal way.

This post is perfect for building connections. Show your audience that you’re human, too.

Example Caption:

This season always makes me pause and reflect, and wow, a lot has happened.

This post is a roundup of some highs, lows, and everything in between that shaped this year for me.

If you’ve been along for the ride, whether from the start or just recently, thank you.

Seriously. Your support, kind messages, and just showing up mean more than you know.

Are you feeling reflective too? If you had to sum up your year in one word, what would it be?

Use a carousel graphic to break it into slides:

Slide 1: Thank you message

Slide 2: Top 3 wins

Slide 3: Top 3 challenges overcome

Slide 4: Favorite client moment

Slide 5: Your energy word or intention for the new year

Customization Tips:

  • Keep it short and sweet: no pressure to overshare. You can list wins like “launched a new offer,” “found better work-life balance,” or “learned to say no more often.”
  • Use real language: skip the polished summary if that’s not your style.
  • For your energy word, pick something that feels right, even if it’s a vibe (ex, “ease,” “focus,” “joy,” “clarity”).

So now what?

Phew! That was a lot. The good news is, this blog isn’t for memorizing. It is, however, a great resource to reference when you plan your content each month. (So make sure to bookmark it.)

Remember, including seasonal content and hashtag holidays in your social media strategy

  • Helps you stay relevant
  • Builds relationships
  • Makes your brand feel more human to your audience

Our biggest tip: don’t fall into the trap of feeling like you need to post for every hashtag holiday. We beg you not to do this. Your first step: pick a couple each month that are relevant to your business and brand personality, then make sure you create content your audience will enjoy!

Homework Time!

Review and choose from the list of hashtag holidays above to create 1-2 posts for next month’s content right now. Pro-tip: Use the prompts to make creating your post easier.

As always, tag us in your post or DM it to us so we can come give it some love. You know we love cheering you on!

If you feel like you just don’t have the time for this homework and want help right now, you can become a member of the Stratos Social Media Club. Each month, two of our twelve templates include seasonal or hashtag holiday prompts and graphics!
