Avoid The Summer Slump For Your Small Biz

May 18, 2026

I loved summer break as a teen.

I grew up in Lima, Peru, near the coast, and my friends and I would head to the cliffs above the beach to watch the sunset almost every night. We wandered the city, stopping for gelato and staying out longer than we should have.

And now, as an adult and small business owner, I find myself thinking… what do you mean we don't get three months off every year?

But here's the thing: your business doesn't get a summer break, and your social media marketing can't afford a full pause either. That doesn't mean you need to hustle harder; it just means you need to be more intentional.

Let me say that again… That doesn't mean you need to hustle harder; it just means you need to be more intentional.

At the Stratos Social Media Club, we understand the challenges of maintaining a consistent online presence during the busy summer months. That's why we've put together five actionable principles to help you stay on track, even when life gets hectic.

Be honest about your capacity
Before setting ambitious business goals for the summer, take a realistic look at your current capacity. Adjust your plan to match what you can realistically achieve, considering your summer schedule and obligations. After you figure that out, decide what marketing and social media efforts are needed to support your realistic goals.

Fill social media gaps (actually ANY gaps) with support
You don't have to handle everything alone. If time is tight, consider bringing in support before things start slipping. This could mean hiring a social media agency, using pre-made templates (like those offered by the Stratos Social Media Club), or delegating tasks to a virtual assistant. Also, if you have support with work but feel like you’re drowning at home, ask for help with your home life. Your family and your business need the version of you that asks for help.

Be intentional with your commitments
Protect your social media presence by being selective about other obligations. Saying no to certain opportunities can help you prioritize your social media marketing efforts and maintain a healthy work-life balance. For me, that looks like saying no to work travel, but saying yes to our annual Yellowstone trip.

Batch your social media content creation
Give yourself structure in advance by batching your content creation. Set aside dedicated time each month to write captions, create graphics, and schedule your posts. When it's done ahead of time, you can focus on other aspects of your business without worrying about last-minute social media updates. If you put your mind to it, there’s no reason you can’t create content ahead of time for the whole summer.

Maintain social media momentum
While it's okay to slow down or simplify your social media approach during the summer, don't hit pause completely. Maintain your progress by scaling back rather than stopping altogether, as it takes time to rebuild lost momentum. You can post less, but don’t stop posting.

At the Stratos Social Media Club, our goal is to make social media easier, more strategic, and less time-consuming for small business owners like you. With our monthly templates, caption prompts, and customization tips, you can create consistent, engaging content without the overwhelm, even during the busy summer months.

As much as I'd love to bring back the kind of summers we had as kids - slow evenings, no responsibilities, nowhere urgent to be - that's just not the reality of running a business. But with a little planning, support, and intention, your social media marketing doesn't have to suffer for it. And neither do you.

Don't let summer chaos derail your social media presence. And if you want a little bit of help, now is the time to join the Stratos Social Media Club and discover how our tools and guidance can help you maintain social media momentum all year long.
